Empowering Students with Choice, Voice, and Engagement for Better Learning

JUN

15

Learn from a National Teacher of the Year finalist and Utah State Teacher of the Year winner as he shares the creative ways he engages and empowers his students to be their own champions and have a voice for the world to hear.

John Arthur, sixth grade teacher and Utah State Teacher of the Year, will share his inspiring teaching strategies and the way he helps his students learn by advocating for themselves and others.

In his classroom, Arthur's students research topics that impact them and their community, learn what the topic or event means to them, then create powerful videos to express their views and what they've learned. Arthur's students have gained national recognition as champions for immigrants and children like them through the videos they create and share on their YouTube channel, 9thEvermore.

In this webinar, Arthur will share his step-by-step process for engaging and empowering students in this work, as well as strategies for effectively amplifying student voices. You'll learn how Arthur pays it forward in a variety of ways, the types of projects they work on together, and the many videos they create and share on YouTube.

In this webinar, you will discover:
  • Ways to engage and empower students by reframing them as content curators and champions for themselves, their families, and their communities.
  • How to use the content students create themselves to assess proficiency/mastery of learning objectives and standards.
  • How you can safely and effectively amplify your students' voices using print and online tools.
