Inspiring Students to Become Readers, Writers, and Inventors of Their Own Learning

APR

18

Cue the Excitement, Creativity, Critical Thinking, Equity, Inclusion, Voice and Choice! What do you get? POWERFUL and MEANINGFUL LEARNING that benefits ALL students! Join Sixth Grade Teacher, Lori Wisnauski, as she shares her powerful instruction and ideas to transform learning into interactive lessons where students become the creators of their own learning using STEAM, project-based learning, and technology.

In addition to attaining new knowledge, students need to be able to ask questions that will lead to new ideas and learning. When students take responsibility for their learning, they become invested in learning rather than being passive recipients of knowledge.

Ms. Wisnauski shares an approach that allows students to find and access materials they otherwise may not, and how the use of project-based learning allows instructors to use engaging learning lessons and technology in the classroom to give students opportunities to interact with reading materials they might not normally choose. She will also share how this approach builds teamwork and collaboration, demonstrates curiosity and open mindedness, and develops responsibility and having a growth mindset. Participants will learn:
• Techniques to empower students, help them discover their individualized best ways to learn, and build the skills and access the content they are most comfortable with to learn.

• Ways to provide experiences that give students voice, choice, and ownership of their own learning to create intrinsic motivation and spark creativity that results in more meaningful learning.

• How this teaching approach benefits all learners, including those who are striving and English Learners.

• Ways to empower students to become learning risk takers. Research shows that when students take responsibility for their learning, they feel more connected to the information and are more likely to process the information and have a deeper understanding of the information.
