Follett today announced an ebook partnership with Carolina Biological Supply, a leading supplier of science labs, materials, and investigations to support biology and chemistry teachers for more than 80 years. Both companies will be exhibitors at this week’s NSTA Conference, which starts Thursday at McCormick Place West.
With the launch of Carolina Biological Supply’s real-world curriculum, Titlewave – Follett’s powerful collection development, search and ordering tool – now provides access to more than 300,000 ebook titles for schools nationwide.
“We are very pleased to be working with Carolina Biological Supply, a leader in STEM content and services in the K-12 market,” said Nader Qaimari, senior vice president of content services and solutions for Follett. “We sought out Carolina due to its reputation for credibility, engaging content and commitment to creating the very best science curriculum.”
According to Carolina Biological Supply’s Bruce Wilcox, both “Biology: Concepts and Practices” and “Chemistry: Concepts and Practices” challenge students to gather information and evidence from hands-on inquiry and real-world texts, while helping them understand disciplinary core ideas mandated by state and national standards. Wilcox added the biology and chemistry courses were developed by the Education Development Center (EDC) and funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF).
“Our relationship with Follett allows us to quickly expand access to both our ‘Concepts and Practices’ courses in biology and chemistry to teachers throughout Follett’s ecosystem of services,” said Wilcox, vice president. “These programs are introductory courses in high school biology and chemistry that use real-world events – ongoing changes in our ecosystems, Hindenburg disaster, Anthrax scare – to drive student engagement and interest.”
With books increasingly moving to digital formats, Follett has been at the forefront of the transition with tools and solutions that help customers access and integrate the new forms of content within schools. Follett customers are able to seamlessly search and access all print and digital content within the convenience of Destiny® Library Manager TM, the leading school library management solution. Destiny features Universal Search, an innovative tool that gives students the ability to access content they need from one system with a consistent user experience. Follett customers without the Destiny platform use Follett Shelf TM, the company’s free eContent management platform. Currently, more than 30 million students and educators in 42,000 schools worldwide use ebooks provided by Follett.
Both companies will both be exhibiting at this week’s NSTA Conference: Follett at booth #558, Carolina Biological Supply at booth #1131.
