MCHENRY,IL – Following a comprehensive search process for a new student information system (SIS), Joliet Public Schools District 86 has adopted Follett Aspen® SIS. The search committee, comprised of 40 key stakeholders, met for nearly two years to identify and select the SIS that best fit the needs of the PreK-8 district, which is home to 12,000 students in 21 schools.
Follett Aspen® Student Information System hosts and manages student data, and safely and securely stores data such as class schedules, student performance, health records, and athletic eligibility, and allows educators to closely monitor student progress, implement new curriculum, and conveniently communicate with parents.
According to John Armstrong, the district’s director of technology, the committee outlined a series of “must-have” features for its new SIS, including accurate state reporting, Spanish-language capability, and easily accessible parent portal, as well as a superior teacher gradebook, and attendance and discipline records.
“Joliet District 86 is excited about the transition to the Follett Aspen Student Information System,” Armstrong said. “The evaluation and selection process was long, but we are confident this student information system will meet the needs of the District.”
Armstrong added his district’s search for a new SIS, to replace the existing system in place since 2009, was a key aspect of the Joliet Public Schools’ three-year strategic plan. He said the new SIS will be fully implemented district-wide this fall.
