Follett Introduces Key Enhancements with Follett Destiny® 17.5 Release

BY DOUG THOMPSON

MCHENRY, IL – Follett has released Follett Destiny® 17.5, a new version of the solution featuring important enhancements to Follett Destiny® Library Manager, Follett Destiny® Resource Manager, Follett Destiny Discover®, and Follett Collections by Destiny®. Used in more than 60 percent of U.S. public schools, Follett Destiny® is Follett’s market-leading platform for library management, digital content, and resource management.

“We’re continually improving Destiny to ensure it meets our customers’ evolving needs and we’re delivering maximum value,” said Britten Follett, Executive Vice President, Follett School Solutions. “With Destiny 17.5, we’ve focused on ease of use, openness, accountability, and driving better community outcomes. We thank all of our loyal and passionate Follett Destiny® customers who have contributed ideas and input to help make our solutions even more effective and efficient.”

Key Follett Destiny® 17.5 updates include:

  • Follett Destiny® Library Manager
The new version will provide support for Community Share, a program that connects Baker & Taylor’s public library digital collections with schools. A seamless integration will be created between the local public library’s Axis 360 eBook collection and Follett Destiny® Library Manager. Students will be provided with immediate access to an expanded selection of age- and grade-appropriate digital content through Follett Destiny Discover®. Every school building participating in Community Share can control which public library titles display to students, ensuring alignment to reading goals.
  • Follett Destiny® Resource Manager
Electronic signatures can now be captured on departing and arriving transfers and warehouse orders. In addition, a new feature will enable warehouse staff to get a quick overview of all of the order activity for resources across all sites within a district. “Better information maximizes the use of existing resources and helps prevent over-ordering,” Follett said.
  • Follett Destiny Discover®
Follett Destiny Discover®, which provides a single discovery interface for students and educators to search and access print and digital resources, will now feature a customizable homepage. Discover administrators will be able to add content such as current events and announcements related to library operations and patron needs to their home page. Elsewhere, Search Suggestions are now “smarter” and more relevant to the needs of patrons. “These improvements will make it quicker and easier for students and staff to find library materials,” Follett added.
  • Follett Collections by Destiny®
Administrators will now have greater control over the Collections at their site. They will be able to edit, delete, copy, and share any collection as if it were their own. Further, administrators can restrict users from seeing collections created at another site. This can be used in a K-12 district to prevent elementary school students from seeing high school content that may be inappropriate for them.
