As part of its introduction of the Follett Classroom Libraries new product line, Follett today announced it would be partnering with The Classroom Library Company (CLC), a St. Louis-based distributor and publisher of educational media correlated to state and national standards. The announcement coincides with the start of the annual International Literacy Association (ILA) Conference, where both companies will be exhibiting.
“Follett Classroom Libraries responds to an important trend in the K-12 classroom marketplace, and enhances our company’s credibility as a solution and service provider leader throughout the K-12 ecosystem,” said Nader Qaimari, senior vice president of content services and solutions for Follett. “We sought out The Classroom Library Company as a partner for its commitment to high-interest, engaging classroom library content and its proven experience providing leading-edge collections.”
Qaimari said Follett’s unveiling of its new product line is driven in part by the need for more supplemental content to help support local and national standards, which emphasizes the need for schools to have a wide range of texts and extensive selections of books to support all students’ literacy development in key subject areas and reading interests. He noted CLC’s pre-built, custom book sets are ready-to-use upon delivery, and conveniently labeled by theme, genre, authors, series, units of study and levels, including Guided Reading Levels (GRL), Lexile, and Developmental Reading Assessment (DRA).
“We are a 3½-year-old startup and the opportunity with Follett is the biggest news for our company to date,” said Benjamin Conn, CEO, The Classroom Library Company. “Our goal is to get children reading at an early age, so they are able to acquire the skills needed to compete in the 21st century. We’re thrilled that partnering with a company such as Follett accomplishes our objective of reaching a dramatically wider reach for our high-quality content.”
Conn added his company’s pedagogically sound book sets are not available via online retail booksellers. Further, he notes all titles are designed to meet individual students’ reading level needs and provide them exposure to engaging and diverse texts, while teachers are supported with time-saving guides and assessments. CLC has created and designed more than 5,000 collections exclusively for Follett.
Follett will make the CLC content available to customers beginning Sept. 1.
Both companies will be exhibiting at the ILA Conference, which starts Saturday (July 18): Follett at booth #823, CLC at booth #620.
