Reading Across Experiences: Build Strong Readers and Give Students Choice with Intentional Book Selection

Access to books can set students on a journey to becoming lifelong readers and being academically and professionally successful.

But defining success goes well beyond quantity – educators need to be intentional in the quality of the books they possess in their classroom and curriculum to create equitable literacy opportunities for all students.

Join author Kwame Alexander, along with #DisruptTexts founders Lorena Germán and Julia Torres, for a lively and informal conversation! These three respected advocates will discuss ways you can give students choice in their reading, and by doing so, watch students become more engaged in reading, read more deeply, and engage in meaningful conversations extending from the text. We hope you’ll join this panel discussion as these three experts share valuable insight and experiences.

Our panel will discuss:

  • Why student choice is important
  • How educators can be more intentional in selecting books
  • Ways educators can make student choice part of the school or classroom culture.
