NOVEMBER 9, 2021
PRESENTER: AUTHOR GAYLE FORMAN
During our Author Takeover events we invite popular authors to candidly share insights into their works and how their books may be incorporated into distance learning and classroom plans.
On November 9, 2021 at 3:00pm CT, Gayle Forman will share the inspirational message behind Frankie & Bug, a book about two young people in the summer of 1987 in Los Angeles. Gayle?will speak about how volunteering as a teenager for AIDS Project Los Angeles in the 1980s inspired this book and how setting the novel during that time allowed her to show today’s readers how quickly some injustices can change while how stubbornly some remain.

It’s also about how learning to be an ally can sometimes be a stumbling process, but making mistakes is how we learn! She hopes young readers will come out of this understanding that ally and hope are verbs, things you actively do to make the world a more just place for all of us.
